The Future of the Church

From the Pastors Desk - February 25, 2023

I believe that the church will be a church of collaborations, a church where perhaps even specific religions will have been stripped away from the names. Perhaps the church will fall back to its ancient purpose of worshipping in small groups and helping members of the community. Perhaps the church will all join as one to carry out the mission of spreading God’s word and helping others. All this remains to be seen and will be interesting to watch play out.

Regardless of the future, we are currently serving in the here and now. The 40 days of the Lenten Season are upon us and we have some wonderful Lenten worship opportunities with Zion UCC.

First, Pastor Eli will be leading a Bible study of the book He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado. These studies will alternate through the month of March on Tuesdays at Good Shepherd and Wednesdays at Zion UCC at 6:30pm. Books are a steal at $5 and are available in the church office.

On Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday) April 2nd, we will host Zion at Good Shepherd for a covered dish dinner and evening Taizé service. Dinner will begin at 5pm and the service at 6:30pm.

On Holy Thursday April 6th, Zion will host Good Shepherd for a Seder Meal and Communion. This will begin at 6:30pm

Finally, on Good Friday April 7th, Good Shepherd will host Zion for a service on the Stations of the Cross beginning at 7pm.

I have also heard a rumor that Pastor Eli will be with us once again this year to celebrate the hallelujahs of Easter!

Please plan to be a part of some of these worship opportunities as we collaborate together, enjoy each other’s company and meet some new faces and friends. As churches, very few of us can “go it alone” anymore, so let us rejoice in our working and worshipping together to do what God has called us to do!

Faithfully,

Lei Fahrner
