From the Pastors Desk - February 27, 2022
Ed asked for my newsletter article by February 22nd, so here I am, on the 22nd, writing this article. I have been alerted by the news media that today is “Twosday”. It is Tuesday the second month of the year, the 22nd day and 2022-in other words 2/2/22! Pretty Cool! However, as I look out the window, it is raining heavily and ice and snow, once again, are predicted for Thursday. I have to wonder why nature this winter has really taken it’s vengeance on Thursdays! We spent a little time outside yesterday with temps close to sixty, and even my son who LOVES snow mentioned that he’s sick of winter and ready for spring. Being sick of winter has about 10 of our Good Shepherd family members either in, or going to, Florida or going to other areas of the country that are warm. I applaud you all and wish I could join you on the beach. Please be safe and have a great time! Keep in touch and send us some warm, sunny weather too! For those of us stuck in Ohio, spring really is coming soon, March 20th to be exact! We have slightly less than a month to wait! Hooray! Keep your fingers crossed since this is Ohio.
While we wait for spring to arrive we do have some events to pass the time. First, Ash Wednesday services on March 2nd. We will have joint services with Zion UCC. They will come to Good Shepherd at Noon, and we will be able to join with them at 6:30pm if that time is more convenient for you. There will be communion and imposition of ashes at both services.
The second event to pass the time is our Lenten dinner on Tuesday, March 8th. Dinner is at 6pm and meat and beverages will be provided. We have also invited Zion UCC to this event so please plan to attend for a great opportunity for fun and fellowship! We will also have a brief program on the history of Lent at 7pm. Please have your reservations in by Sunday, February 27th.
Beginning on Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30pm, Zion UCC is hosting the Adam Hamilton Video Series “24 Hours that Changed the World”. This is a Lenten series that “relives the one day in history that changed everything”. If you are interested in attending, please see Pat Hoffman for more information.
These are great church events to attend at the beginning of the month while we wait for spring! Of course there is always partying and wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day too on March 17th, but I didn’t tell you to party too hard! After the 17th we only have three more days until spring and then hope really is on the horizon! It’s been a tough winter, and we can only hope that Mother Nature smiles upon us in the month of March. In the meantime, I think I’ll go wash the spring jackets. It always pays to be prepared!
