From the Pastors Desk - June 09, 2024
I love dandelions! Dandelions are my perfect reminder of summer. When I was in elementary school our playground was surrounded by a field of grass. Around the middle of May, that field would become a sea of yellow dandelions. Those dandelions encouraged me to know that the end of the school year was in sight and that homework and arduous school tasks would soon be forgotten for summer vacation! I would be blissfully unencumbered by educational requirements! Hooray!!
To this day, every time I see dandelions I still have to smile. Unfortunately, they are blooming earlier and earlier thanks to global warming. (Yes, I do believe in global warming and no, I don’t believe it can be simply and quickly legislated away.) Now, mid to late April has become my soon to be summer reminder. That’s ok as I know they will always be appearing all over our lawn. No chemical lawn service here!!! That only encourages the grass to grow. I would rather have weeds as they don’t need to be mowed as often!
So what about you? Do you have a special something that reminds you of summer or other special time of your life? I hope you do! Perhaps it’s sitting on the porch with a glass of lemonade, or maybe listening to the baseball game on the radio, or hearing the ice cream truck in the distance. Whatever it is, I hope you find it this summer! I hope it brings you as much peace and joy as it did the first time you discovered it. Enjoy your summer!!!
