“Fact or Fable?”

From the Pastors Desk - March 29, 2026

Easter Sunday is April 05, 2026. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. In all the stores you see signs of Easter. Easter bunnies. Easter candy. Easter clothes.

For many people, Easter celebration, along with Christmas, is the highlight of a 365-day-a-year personal commitment to Jesus Christ. For some, Easter Sunday is an inspiration to make their once-or-twice entrance into a church building. For others, Easter will have little or no meaning at all.

How about you my friend? How have you approached the Easter celebration? Have you pondered the question, “Is it possible that God became a human being and actually died on a cross for our sins and then rose from the dead in victory over sin and death?” Some believe the talk about resurrection is a fable and/or myth. They say, “It’s a nice story, but it never happened.”

There have been many theories given to try and explain away the claim that Jesus rose from the dead. Some have said that the disciples stole the body of Jesus so that they could pretend that He was risen from the dead. According to those who believe this way, the Christian faith is a hoax propounded by men and women who were disillusioned by the death of their leader but were determined to carry on His message and cause even though He had died a martyr.

Others have said that Jesus’ body was removed from the tomb so that the disciples would not be able to steal the body from the tomb, pretending that Jesus had risen. Others have said that those who claim they saw Jesus after His death were suffering hallucinations. Others have claimed that Jesus never actually died on the cross. They hold to the “swoon theory”. This theory claims that Jesus was crucified. In the course of events, Jesus fainted and was mistaken for dead. He was wrapped for burial and put in the tomb. He awakened and released Himself from the tomb.

The debate goes on. How about you? Is the resurrection of Jesus Christ fact or fable, reality or myth? It makes a difference in what you believe. Take time to read and think about 1 Corinthians 15:12-19. The Apostle Paul declares that if Jesus has not been raised from the dead, than our preaching and our faith is useless. More than that, Paul declares that we are false witnesses, we are liars. If Jesus has not risen then no one has made it out of death. Dead family and friends are just that. Dead. It makes a difference, a eternal difference, what you believe.

Please join us Easter Sunday no matter where you are in your thoughts about the resurrection of Jesus. I will speak to you on this issue. We will, together, join with others who with open hearts and minds will experience the reality and presence of the risen Christ. -Eli
