Odds & Ends

From the Pastors Desk - February 02, 2025

Welcome to February, already!?? It’s hard to believe that January is done and gone. It seems like just a few days ago we were getting on a plane to leave for vacation. California was sunny, beautiful and in the low to mid sixties, perfect weather for walking around without a coat on. We spent most of our time in San Diego but we also enjoyed a few days driving around the LA and coast areas. We spent the entire day in the airport on January 7th and returned to cold, snowy, need a coat, Canton at around 11pm. The next day the LA area was burning out of control. It was surreal to see the beautiful places, that only days before had dog walkers, bicyclists and beachgoers, reduced to embers. Because of these horrific fires, we are making Lutheran World Relief: California Wildfires our February Concern of the Month. With all of the organizations collecting money for the fire victims, it’s comforting to know that 100% of donations going to LWR will go to the people and communities that need it most.

Sunday school class– sorry about the last minute announcement, but we’re back in session this Sunday, February 2nd. We will be studying The Hunt for Biblical Artifacts. Artifacts like Noah’s Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail and others , some better known than others. So come on Sunday with your Indiana Jones attire (just kidding)! We’ll just sit in the warm Fellowship Hall and enjoy not having to scale mountains or be bombarded with snakes (“why does it have to be snakes”).

Looking ahead to March, we will be burning last year’s palm branches during the Rite for the Burning of the Palms. This will take place on Sunday, March 2nd between the service and Sunday school so that those who would like to attend, but don’t come to Sunday school, can attend as well. We will then use these ashes for Ash Wednesday. We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed for good weather.

Also in March we will have a St. Patrick’s Day brunch on March 16th. As soon as we iron out the details I will let you know all the information, so keep your calendars up to date!

Looking forward to some interesting things!

Faithfully,

Lei Fahrner
