Notes from the Choir Loft - September 05, 2020
There has been a lot on the internet about congregational singing these past few months and Covid-19. Studies/test have shown that the aerosols/mist from singing project much further than the 6 feet distancing we are currently using, since it takes more air to sing than speak. With that said, there will be NO or VERY LIMITED congregational singing when we return to worship inside. Our Sanctuary Worship Team will assess this as we get further along and have a better understanding where we stand with this virus this fall and winter.
So where does this leave us…basically relying heavily on instrumental music for the most part.
Our bell/chime choir is splitting into two smaller groups. This way they can distance from each other and help provide some variety in worship.
We can also have some of our favorite guest instrumentalist in to supplement our current “In-house” instrumentalist. But to do that your help is need by making contributions to our music ministry fund. The form is below, and you can send in your contributions to the office right now.
We may be able to form a group of 4-5 singers (masked) in the gallery, these singers would be distanced further than 6 feet from each other and distanced away from you down in the pew. They would provide some leadership that a larger group cannot right now. Other churches have been using a small ensemble to help with music for recordings or in-person worship
I, along with my ministry colleagues (many who are still not worshiping in-person) are struggling to do our best to keep everyone safe as possible and yet provide music for worship, whether it be in-person or online.
