From the Pastors Desk - April 07, 2024
I can’t begin to thank all of you enough for all of your support during the difficult time of my mom’s passing. Thank you to every one who came to calling hours, stayed for the funeral, stayed for lunch, sent sympathy cards or just prayed for our family. Your support means the world to me! Thank you to Rod Swartz for his willingness to lector and Wil & Judy Baum for ushering.
I also want to thank all the ladies who helped with the luncheon: Linda Lautenschlager, Dee Kreisher, Sandi Self, Donna Jakmides, Pat Hoffman and Judy Flading (My humblest apologies as I’m sure I have forgotten someone). The luncheon was wonderful in both food and fellowship! It was wonderfully heartwarming to see so many people enjoying each others’ company. Thank you for staying and being part of that difficult day. I am SO blessed to have every one of you as my church family!
On a lighter note, as you have read on the front page, we are planning a “Remember When?” party with our friends at Zion UCC on Saturday, April 27th. Bring your favorite dish you remember from your childhood (or any time). We will supply sandwiches in case too many folks loved the unique Jell-o salads (apparently they were even made with meat too!-Oh my!). You are welcome to bring a picture from your younger days and post it on our picture guessing board. We’ll see who can get the most correct answers!
Oddly enough, vintage recipes are all the rage right now. There is a guy on Instagram who cooks all kinds of vintage recipes, from roughly 1900 to the 1980s. Carl bought Anne his cookbook for Christmas. Anne loves to collect vintage recipe books and has been watching Instagram to learn more. Some of the recipes are ok, others….well… let’s just say they need to be left in the annals of history. Please!!! Yes, it’s true that some things should NOT be resurrected! Prune whip may be one of them!
Anyway, we thought that it was about time for some fun and fellowship between us and our friends at Zion, especially before vacations start. What better way than to share favorite foods with friends. Hope to see everyone there!
